REVIEW: NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream (Amsterdam)

Hello girls! How's your week so far? I hope it's good and not as boring as mine. I've been holding myself from reviewing another lip products in the past couple of weeks so I wouldn't bore you guys out #lipstickhoarderprobs. Now I got a new lipstick to review, which I got for free as a giveaway gift from Female Daily. It was their first giveaway, all I had to do was write beauty products reviews on FD's review page, the prizes were NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream, Colourpop Lippiestix, Hydraluron, and Urban Decay's Naked Palette!. I was lucky to get one of this SMLC. They had another giveaway too last week with loads of lipsticks as the prize, but I didn't win. And this week, they're having another giveaway with eye products as the prize!. It's crazy how Female Daily keep throwing giveaway for their members! (in a good way).

I have always wanted to try any lipsticks labeled to be "matte", including this NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream, so I'm really happy with this gift, and I'm more than happy to get a bold shade instead of another nude. I got Amsterdam, which I think is the only bold shade FD got for the giveaway gifts among Athens and Buenos Aires.

The texture of this lip cream is creamy, obviously, and kinda moussey. It felt tiny bit thicker than my other liquid lipsticks, maybe it's because of the creamy texture. Unlike the liquids that tends to be absorbed by the lips and has thinner consistency. It appeared to be a little shiny first, but it will dries down to matte after a minute. It applies easily with the regular doe foot applicator and has a lovely vanilla scent that won't fade quickly (it's so yummy!). I swatched this along with my other red lipsticks just to see how it compares with the others, and I'm glad it's not like the others. Amsterdam is a red shade with a hint of coral. I don't have any coral lipsticks, and I actually like it and would love to get some!. Mean while my other reds are either burgundy (Etude House Soft Auto Touch Lip Liner Real Rose), brownish (Revlon Matte Lipstick Fabulous Fig and Just Miss J-09 Lip Pencil), and orangey (RiRe Lip Manicure Muse Red).

I heard some opinions about this lip creams being patchy, uneven, not transfer proof, and not long lasting. I'm sad to say that those are true. On the lip swatch you can see that it didn't apply evenly, the dark sides of my lips are still visible on some parts. Although I've applied another layer it only make it look patchy, and the fact I didn't exfoliate my lips first make it look even worst. Some dead skin at the edge of my lips flaked a bit. It sank into the lines of my lips too and it definitely not transfer proof, because after a couple drinks it started to fade away.

I don't mind re-applying lipsticks, but for a quite high price (higher than LA Girl's Matte Pigment Gloss at least), I expect it to be long lasting and has good quality too. I don't know if this only happens to a few particular shades, or to the other shades as well, but I'm still okay with it because the shade is gorgeous, and NYX does always has a great range of shades. I may have to prep my lips a bit more before wearing this lip cream. This lip cream also not as drying as other matte lipsticks, so it's a plus too.

Honestly I don't consider to purchase this lipstick because there are other liquid lipsticks or lip creams with better qualities and better prices out there, and based on some reviews, I heard that NYX latest Suede Cream Lipsticks have better formula and quality. So I think I'll pick them up instead of the Soft Matte Lip Creams. But if you hate liquid matte lipsticks that drains your lip, or their paint/chemical scents, and would like something with lots of shade options, this NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams could be your choice. I hope this review helps, and if you have this lip cream too, I'd love to hear your opinion about it on the comment box bellow! See ya in my next post :)

  1. That is a beautiful shade, Sitha! And congrats on winning the giveaway! I have one of these and it's a nude shade but I can't remember which one. Maybe try to use a lip liner underneath it and it won't be as patchy?

    1. Thanks Ashley :) it is a beautiful shade, definitely gonna add some more corals to my collection!
Maybe it came out patchy because I didn't exfoliate first. But yeah I haven't tried using lip liner either, I hope it'll work, now I have to find a matching lip liner too :D

    1. It's one of the best seller liquid lipstick here, but the price is not the best lah dibanding matte liquid lipstick lain.. I don't get really get the hype too, not much of NYX products get mentioned or get raved by beauty bloggers/vloggers (only lipstick, lip liners, brow&eyeliner) anyway, I'd rather buy from different brands

    1. Yes, the shade is beautiful! :D I only wish the texture wouldn't be as thick and can be applied evenly. Does this happen with yours too?
