REVIEW: ELF Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder (St. Lucia)

A few months ago, I never thought that I needed bronzer because I always assumed that bronzer is for pale girls only who wants to look like as if they just came back from vacation in a tropical island. I live in a tropical country, I don't have pale skin, looking bronzed is never been a trend here because most people still think clear-bright skin is one of the definition of "pretty". Until I realized most of my bases are all a tad lighter than my skin tone. It makes me look pale and flat. That's when it hit me, I need bronzer in my life.

Picking one bronzer to buy was really hard. I don't know which one would work on me yet. I can't find anything in my local drugstore since bronzer isn't our thing, so I had to buy online. This ELF Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder is actually had been in my wishlist for awhile, ever since Kathleen Lights mentioned it in some of her videos. I wanted the Sunny Bronzer from NYC too because it's completely matte, but considering the price for Sunny Bronzer is slightly higher than ELF, beside the ELF one got a blush too, that's why I decided to go with ELF. And I chose St.Lucia because even though there's a matte one called Fiji, it just doesn't seem like the bronzer will show up on my skin.

If you're familiar with ELF's studio line, you know how sleek, sturdy and expensive (think about NARS) it looks. The only thing I dislike about packaging is it gets dirty rather quickly, you can see it on the picture above. When opened, you can see how beautiful the shades are. A peachy pink blush and a medium brown shade that looks like complimenting each other and will suit light to medium skin tone really well. It has a huge mirror which I really love. Then here comes the swatches... the bronzer shade is the perfect shade for my skin tone, it's either too dark, too light, or too orange. Although there's a slight shimmers in it but it don't bother me because on the skin it looks more like a sheen instead of shimmery. Mean while the blush didn't turn out as good as it seem on the pan, it come out to be light peach on my skin and the golden shimmers are kinda chunky, it slightly affect how it appears on the camera as well, hence it seems to be a bit orangey on the swatch.

The pigmentation of the bronzer is really nice, though a lot of people say it is super pigmented, I don't think it is, maybe it's because the shade is not that dark for me, so I don't see the need to use a light hand to put this on my face. But the blush is just horrible, the texture is so hard even if I have rubbed it with all my power to swatch this thing, it's nearly impossible to make the color show up in a single swatch, layering it wouldn't really help too because it only makes the shimmers piles up and it definitely don't look good on my big pores. The combination of the two is actually look good, it creates the perfect bronzed, sun kissed look to the skin, but I just wish the blush is not as sheer and the shimmers would be less chunky. And if you notice any fly outs around the pan, it is because the bronzer is powdery, there are fall outs everywhere right from the first time I opened it, but the blush is not powder due the hard texture.

I honestly like this product so much! I use it everyday, but only the bronzer. If only the blush had better quality.. Do you have any suggestion for drugstore bronzers? I really want to know because I can see this ELF Contouring Blush and Bronzer will be used up quickly, and I'd love to try other brands, let me know in the comment below. Thank you for reading, I'll see you in my next post :)

  1. Wow that palette is beautiful! That blush is gorgeous in the pan and tbh I really like the idea of it having lots of sparkles lol. I don't use bronzers either (for similar reasons) but now I'm thinking I should look into it. I don't know much about bronzers (admittedly) but! I have seen a few people say they like NYX's bronzers, maybe check into those ones?

    1. the sparkles would be fine if only it has a better pigmentation, you should try it, it really adds balance to your whole look! NYX do have so many different choices of bronzers, but I haven't seen many reviews on it, I guess it's just not that good. I heard City Color (relatively new brand) came up with a great bronzers and blushes with great prices, I think it may be my next pick up :)

  2. ELF have recently launched their new website in the UK and I'm still yet to add things to my basket. I've stuck with the same Rimmel Sun Kissed bronzer my whole bronzing life, which I think is saying something.

    1. ELF has so many good products, I even have lots of ELF products in my wishlist that still remains uncrossed. Well the Rimmel bronzer is quite huge, so it must take some time to finish it up. I'm gonna check on that too! :)

  3. Hah, I never thought I needed bronzer either until I gave into the peer pressure and picked up a few and GUESS WHAT??? I STILL DON'T USE BRONZER. I actually have the Sunny bronzer, but I gave it away because it was too orange on my pale skin. I'm surprised by how different the blush looks in the pan vs on your skin too! I have a few of ELF's blushes and they're not super pigmented either, but nowhere as sheer as the blush in this duo. And not drugstore, but people really fave about the Body Shop's honey bronzer. I think it does run light though, as I'm shade #3?

    1. Actually bronzer is not that necessary because most of it got hid by my scarf anyway, but I always feel like something's missing when I don't have bronzer on now. Well if it looks orange on you it probably will be too light for my skin tone then. I've seen the body shop's honey bronzer, and yes it's more on the lighter side, it's more expensive too as it is like $20 in here :(

  4. I can't recall exactly but I think I've tried this before. I'm always impressed with ELF products because they're so well priced & it works well. It's the best of both worlds. You can't go wrong. :]

  5. I'm actually a pretty huge fan of ELF but this one I've never tried. Such a shame about the blush, though! I don't use bronzer to look, well, bronzed, but for contouring, I do, haha. Lovely review, Sitha!

    1. I know.. I wish the blush is just as good as the bronzer. I don't use this bronzer to contour because it's too warm for that, but I use the powder in ELF eyebrow kit to contour, and it works really good! Thanks for stopping by May :)

  7. I'm glad you like th bronzer in this! I have one of these too and the blush doesn't work well either. The elf blush palette I have though, the blushes are way better!! I'd try the Nyc sunny bronzer next since you were already thinking about it, it's a good one too!

  8. I find e.l.f to be hit and miss. I love the eyebrow set but hated the HD blusher, it was the worst I've tried. Never seen this duo here though but I have been eyeing the blusher palette which has really good reviews.

  9. I haven't tried many ELF products, but the bronzer looks great! My skin is super pale so it's hard to find a bronzer that's not too dark for me... I really like the look of this one though, thank you for sharing <3

    1. Thanks Bella :) I see, if it looks orange on you it might work for me, I just hope it won't end up too light for my medium skin tone. I also heard about the studio blushes for not that pigmented, but I really want to try the blush palette, it looks so good!
